Your Quick Guide to Social Media Advertising Features & Restrictions
Social media advertising is a whole new avenue for the advertising industry. Businesses are finding valuable and cost-effective ways to incorporate social media advertising into their overall strategies. As much as this has brought an incredible amount of opportunity and advantages to the advertising world, it’s also built obstacles and has added confusion.
As social media advertising has progressed at warp-speed over the past few years, it’s been nearly impossible for businesses to stay on top of the growing features and changing restrictions that greatly impact every piece of content that is placed.
How can you stay on top of these changing rules and trends? Keep reading as we take a high-level look at what you need to know about each of the major platforms and their advertising best practices.
This is the biggest and most obvious platform that businesses turn to when they first decide to dive into the world of social media advertising. Your ads placed on Facebook will hit a moderately-young crowd but one that is getting older with each passing month and year. In fact, if you want to proactively reach a mature (even senior) adult audience, Facebook is the way to go! You can effectively advertise on Facebook starting at a few hundred dollars a month, which makes it a great entry-level social media advertising option. So if you’re just starting out, start with Facebook.
Twitter users are typically a higher level of education and income than the average American, so if this is your market, Twitter could be a great choice for your advertising placement. This is also the most global of all platforms, so keep this in mind if your product or service needs to reach a broad audience of diverse cultures. Be sure to pay attention to the ad formats and placements which vary from Facebook. You may find that this works better to display your desired message or works against it. And in order to get the most out of your Twitter ads, you’ll want your business to have a professional presence on the platform. Be sure to incorporate cultivating such a presence into your overall advertising strategy.
This platform hits a bit of a younger audience with 67% of users age 18-29. It is also the fastest-growing platform. Because Instagram is owned by Facebook, placing ads simultaneously across both platforms creates an efficient and effective advertising strategy that will get you more bang for your buck. Placing a single ad design across both platforms is offered to your right within Facebook when you initially create your ad. Additionally, Instagram is highly visual, so if this fits your ad strategy, focus on Instagram!
Snapchat
This hits the youngest demographic with 90% of users age 13-24. Plus 80% of users use this platform daily! Simply put, Snapchat is going to reach your younger generations who want fast and entertaining content, and your messages must be placed in large quantities to grab their attention among all the other “noise” out there. If you have a product or service that is geared toward this demographic and can create ads that stand out among your competitors, be sure to include Snapchat in your overall advertising strategy.
TikTok
TikTok is another platform that reaches a younger demographic. When it first started to offer advertising, it came at a steep price, but now has many more options that are cost-effective for brands. Too often businesses discount this platform as a fad or one that does not reach their target demographic, but the users are broader and more engaged than you might think! Be sure to do your research on TikTok and don’t count this out too soon. Our money is on this platform growing and reaming relevant well into the future!
