5 Ways to Revamp Your Advertising Strategy for the Holidays
The holidays will soon be upon us and from all angles we will be bombarded with holiday advertisements promising things like “rock bottom prices” and “the best deal ever offered in history.” The hype, and chaos, surrounding these door buster deals can be overwhelming to say the least. So how can you make sure your business’s advertisements break through the noise this holiday season? Take a look at our top five tips to effective revamp your advertising strategy for the holidays!
Think Like a Holiday Shopper
In order to reach your target audience this holiday season, you will need to get inside their heads. How does their focus shift in November and December? What motivates them over the holidays?
Whether you’re trying to appeal to holiday shoppers, or simply other businesses during the holiday season, the messaging of your advertising needs to reflect what they are most receptive to seeing and hearing right now. Holiday shoppers react to urgency and big discounts. Business owners are thinking about finishing the year strong and planning for the next year. Meet your target audience where they are and with what they want to see during the holidays!
Add a “Jingle”
A holiday jingle, in advertising terms, isn’t something on Santa’s sleigh. What we’re suggesting here is to take your usual tagline and commercial music and give it some holiday decoration. This includes your website and social media accounts too! Make your tagline a play on a classic holiday song, temporarily change the color of your logo and website to red and green, or add a touch of snow or Christmas bulbs to your graphics. A subtle holiday twist on your established brand will make people take a second look and also resonate with the holiday thoughts that are likely on their mind.
Un-Automate Your Ads (Temporarily)
If you have ads that you run on automation throughout the other 10 months of the year, hit pause during November and December! While every other business is running festive holiday ads, you don’t want to look out of touch with the ho-hum messaging people see all the time. Put the effort into creating a different advertising strategy with holiday related messaging and special offers that speak directly to your target audience.
Rotate New Deals Each Week
Creating one great holiday advertisement isn’t enough. Running this same ad over the course of six or so weeks will cause it to fade into the background. Get the most for your holiday advertising dollars by running a series of holiday ads that build upon one another each week. Consider a theme for your ads, or tell a piece of a story through each promotion. Most importantly, run unique deals that appeal to a variety of different customer motives. While some customers might prefer a percentage off deal, others like buy-one-get-one offers.
Invest in Social Media Advertising
Posting holiday deals and promotions to your Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts will reach some of your followers, but that’s a very limited audience of people who actively choose to follow your accounts. In addition to regular social media posts, carve out room in your holiday advertising budget to invest in paid social media posts. Paid/sponsored posts will reach a far greater demographic than your existing network of followers. You can also narrow your target audience by any number of factors to hit the right people with the right message. If you’re not on social media, your competitors surely are. Step up your game this holiday season with social media advertising!
